At the time Gottfredson was reportedly eager to work in animation and somewhat reluctant to accept his new assignment. Disney had to assure him the assignment was only temporary and that he would eventually return to animation. Gottfredson accepted and ended up holding this "temporary" assignment from May 5, 1930, to November 15, 1975. One can imagine the peace a mouse might find laying here with a book and the soothing sound of the rain’s pitter-patter against the window. A fireplace greets visitors, directly beside a caricatured vintage radio that’s probably seen its fair share of fireside chats.

It is Black and White Day at the House of Mouse, and the club is packed with old black and white cartoon characters. One of them, Dennis the Duck, tries to win over Donald, who is annoyed by him at first. In an attempt to shut down the House of Mouse, Pete steals all the cartoons, and cannot be found guilty even with obvious clues pointing to him. Meanwhile, Donald is put in charge of the club after Mickey and Goofy leave to film a new cartoon. Despite managing to keep the show going, Pete points out that with only one cartoon, guests would get bored and eventually stop coming.

By calling "Oh, Toodles!" Mickey summons him to pop up from where he is hiding and fly up to the screen so the viewer can pick which tool Mickey needs for the current situation.[5][6] Rhymes are used throughout the show. For example, in "Mickey's Silly Problem", when the "Silly switch" turned on, Mickey spoke in rhymes for half of the episode. Various characters, including Dumbo and Timothy Mouse, the Notre Dame Gargoyles, and Scuttle, try to help, but nothing works until Peter Pan arrives. A living car from one of the cartoons shown at the club arrives and Max, curious that it has no driver, gets in only to be taken hostage and driven around against his will. When the car crashes itself into the club, Goofy assumes the worst and forbids Max from having a car. Feeling sorry for Max, Mickey and the others let him host and show a cartoon of Goofy being a reckless driver.

It was a unique show that combined elements of a sitcom, variety show, and animation, and featured popular Disney characters from various films and shorts. About this time, story artists at Disney were finding it increasingly difficult to write material for Mickey. As he had developed into a role model for children, they were limited in the types of gags they could present. This led to Mickey taking more of a secondary role in some of his next films, allowing for more emphasis on other characters. In Orphan's Benefit (1934), Mickey first appeared with Donald Duck who had been introduced earlier that year in the Silly Symphony series. The tempestuous duck would provide Disney with seemingly endless story ideas and would remain a recurring character in Mickey's cartoons.

The storyline was completed on September 20, 1930, and later reprinted in comic book form as Mickey Mouse in Death Valley. This early adventure expanded the cast of the strip which to this point only included Mickey and Minnie. Among the characters who had their first comic strip appearances in this story were Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Black Pete as well as the debuts of corrupted lawyer Sylvester Shyster and Minnie's uncle Mortimer Mouse. The Death Valley narrative was followed by Mr. Slicker and the Egg Robbers, first printed between September 22 and December 26, 1930, which introduced Marcus Mouse and his wife as Minnie's parents. In the 1950s, Mickey became more known for his appearances on television, particularly with The Mickey Mouse Club. Many of his theatrical cartoon shorts were rereleased on television series such as Ink & Paint Club, various forms of the Walt Disney anthology television series, and on home video.

The Three Caballeros are scheduled to perform at the club, but no one remembers that Donald was the third Caballero, except Pumbaa. Determined to not be forgotten, he tries to be the most important performer of the group, re-naming himself "The Duck Formerly Known as Donald" (a parody of Prince). The Movie Barn gets its name in part from the so-called barn studio where Walt Disney created some of the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoons. One of them is a "Mystery Mouseketool" represented by a Question Mark, in which, when the words "Mystery Mouseketool" are said, the question mark changes into the Mouseketool the viewer gets to use. Another one is a "Mouseke-Think-About-It Tool" represented by a silhouette of Mickey's head with rotating gears, in which characters must think of what to use before telling the Tool "Mouseke-Think-About-It-Tool, we pick the (object)". Once the tools have been shown to Mickey on the Mousekedoer screen, they are quickly downloaded to Toodles, a small, Mickey-head-shaped flying extension of the Mousekedoer.

It featured segments with the animated characters interacting with each other and engaging in various comedic situations while being served by Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. The club also showcased animated shorts and music performances by Disney characters throughout the episodes. The show was produced by Walt Disney Television, and originally aired from 2001 to 2003, running for 52 episodes.
